Solo travelling has always been one of my wishes. I have been heard a lot about solo travellers and was really curious to experience the same. For some people, it’s complete nonsense and for some it’s impossible, but there is an abnormal crowd who are addicted to this adventure and I am one of them.
So a long weekend was up and all my friends were busy in their hectic schedule. This was the best time to make my wish come true. I started my search, to find a good place and found Nainital on the top list, make a list of the best places in Nainital and got the detailed information.
I have travelled alone many times, but that was an official solo trip of mine. Solo trip means you are the doctor; you are the travel guide and everything as per the plan. So, I reached Kathgodam at early morning and boarded a taxi from there to reach my destination. On the way, I couldn’t help myself and found myself stopping every now and then, only to click pictures of the splendid landscapes.
After that, I reached my destination the city of lakes Nainital. I checked into the hotel and entered my room. The room was very small accompanied with a table, bed, TV and of course the dressing table. After freshen up, I went out sightseeing to get a closer look at this wonderful hill station. Here start my solo trip to the city of lakes.
Here is a List of Popular and Best places in Nainital:
1. Eco Cave Garden
The Eco Cave Garden was the first spot I decided to check out. It’s a place known for beautiful, unique horticultural mosaic: comprising of rock gardens, musical fountains and hanging gardens. Very peaceful, very zen and the ideal way to begin exploring everything else Nainital has to offer. The interesting part here were the set of six caves in the shape of different animals! In the evening, the Eco Cave Garden hosts a musical fountain show.
2. Tiffin Point
A must visit place for avid photographers and selfie enthusiasts alike are the Tiffin Point picnic spot located on Ayarpatta hill. Known for its serene and calm environment, one can enjoy a good picnic with the family or use your DSLR to capture some unforgettable shots.

3. Govind Ballabh Pant Zoo
Of course, there’s only so many hours in a day, so the last stop on the first day of sightseeing was the Govind Ballabh Pant Zoo. Here you’ll find several species of animals and birds native to this region like the Siberian Tiger, Wolf, White Peacock, barking deer; just to name a few.
4. Naina Devi Temple
The next day, I headed off to the Naina Devi temple nestled over the banks of Naina Lake. This is one of the best places in Nainital to visit. The story goes that the Goddess Sati’s eyes fell at the same spot where this temple stands – a reason why a number of devotees visit the temple every day. It is one of the Best Places to Visit in Nainital.
5. Snow View Point
So next, I made my way to the Snow view point, a local spot that gives you the most expansive and majestic view of the Himalayas. The best part is that you can enjoy this one of a kind view with a bowl of warm Maggi or a cup of hot chai! Courtesy of the small stalls there.
6. Boating at Naina Lake
A sacred start should always be followed by something serene like boating at Naina Lake. This lake is shaped like mango and attracts a lot of people interested in boating, paddling and other lakeside activities. Then there the other more modern forms of serenity like SHOPPING! For this, I went to Mall road, among the best shopping places in Nainital lined with shopping centres, restaurants, hotel, street shops and more.
7. Sariyatal Waterfall
Sariyatal Waterfall is located 10 Kilometres away from the lake city. This is a natural waterfall made and is not too big but is the major attraction near Sariyatal. There are no entry fees for this waterfall. This place is best for adventurous peoples, as it gives a different kind of peace to body and mind. Visit this waterfall and make some memories.

8. Bike Riding
If you want to explore the lake city while riding a bike, then you can easily hire a bike from the Mall Road area. There are lots of bike rentals options available in the city where you can submit your Identity card and show them your Driving License. They provide the bike as per hourly basis or you can take the bike for day basis too. So that’s how my story of as a solo traveller came to be. Though I am a beginner, I think I did pretty well.
Managing almost everything on your own from searching the best places in Nainital to doing things out of your limits is an amazing feeling. As per my thinking travelling alone requires peace of mind, strong intend, and passion. The solo trip gives you an opportunity to know what you love and what you don’t.
Do try a solo trip and experience the way I had done. It will surely make you a more confident, stronger and wiser person.
